The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
Recently we had a small but very interesting incident on our social media. We shared a very beautiful announcement poster, for one of our ongoing collaborations on our Facebook page. Just after few hours of the post, we got a copyright issue for the ‘clip-art image’ used in our poster!
As you can see in the image, this beautiful clip-art image has been rightfully used by Humans of Kathmandu
We promptly took down the poster from our social media. Soon after that, we had a brief conversation with the respective party to apologize for the mistake and resolve this issue from both sides. Apologies again 🙂
As an organization, we are always respectful of art and artists for their creations. And even careful about avoiding copyright issues and claims. The issue that happened yesterday was completely unintentional as we were misled into using this beautiful clip-art, as it was freely available in the public domain without any rights to the respected party. If we were a bit more careful, this mistake could have been easily avoided.
In Karkhana, we believe that failures are the ladder to success and always try to REFLECT on them, LEARN from our mistakes and SHARE our learnings. As the digital world surrounds us more than ever, we hope these learning and tips shall be helpful to all because mistakes are meant for learning not repeating.
Do a “background search” on any image before using it.
If you’re using any image from google, any public domain, or any website claiming free images/clips, you definitely should do your due diligence to ensure that you have the right to use the image you ultimately select.
Let’s be a good digital citizen, and it starts TODAY from YOU!
