Communicating and sharing digital content

COMMUNICATION AND SHARING DIGITAL CONTENTS

The internet has made communication easy. We can share digital contents with a mere touch to screen. These simple actions have an invisible, complex side underneath. Our online activities can be, and are, tracked. Our private information can fall into the wrong hands. We might unintentionally contribute to the circulation of false information. Each of these cases can have severe consequences. Only proper knowledge and awareness can provide people the ability to communicate and share safely. In this third theme of the toolkit, we focus on the less visible side of communication and content sharing.

LESSONS AND CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

1. Disinformation in the Digital World

Disinformation has become a major problem in the online world. A major role in circulation of such false information is played by unaware users who share a false content without much thought or speculation. Understanding how and why disinformation is brewed, how it spreads, and the unexpected consequences it can have, is an essential part of the present day digital literacy.

2. Dangers of communication and information sharing

It has become easy to communicate and share information. These simple processes have a more complicated and less visible side underneath. Being unaware if the risks associated with them can cause people to fall into traps. A basic understanding can go far when it comes to keeping oneself safe in the online world.
