CREATING DIGITAL CONTENT

CREATING DIGITAL CONTENT

The rise in popularity of digital information sharing platforms such as YouTube and social media has added to the effectiveness of digital content. Being able to create good quality digital contents is an asset for anyone who needs to reach out to an audience. At the same time, it has become important to be aware of the laws governing the use of digital contents. In this second theme of the toolkit, we focus on  the foundation required to create digital contents.

LESSONS AND CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

1. Content creation process for graphic design

Content creators follow similar processes that have evolved over time. Understanding such processes can help beginners save time, minimize initial phases of frustrations and get a good start. Graphic design is presented here as a secondary content to show the creation process at work. Nevertheless, it’s growing quickly and might, in years to come, establish itself as a basic skill equivalent to writing/typing.

2. Intellectual Property and Copyright

Digital contents are often built on the available contents. It is important for a content creator to know when they are rightfully building on another creator’s content and when it is considered theft. Being aware of copyright, its exceptions, creative commons and public domain helps a content creator avoid legal problems while creating digital contents.
